- Alcohol Denat
- Denatured ethanol; solvent, penetration enhancer, and quick-dry agent; high % may compromise barrier in dry skin.
- Ethoxydiglycol
- Ethoxydiglycol; high-perf solv/humectant; low irrit, EU limit 20%, watch total PEG load
- Propylene Glycol
- Polyol humectant at 3-10%; hygroscopic, slight tackiness, mild irritation at high conc., verify preservative efficacy, no allergen.
- Glycolic Acid
- Glycolic acid for exfoliation; requires buffering at concentrations >10%, avoid combination with other acids.
- Retinyl Propionate
- Retinoid ester for antioxidant and keratolytic effect; photosensitizing, use at night.
- Salicylic Acid
- Lipophilic BHA at 0.5-2%; exfoliant/sebum control, irritation/sensitization at high conc., photosensitivity (SPF needed), avoid sensitive/pregnant.
- Kojic Acid
- Tyrosinase inhibitor for whitening; EU limit 1% in water, unstable and requires light protection, potential irritation.
- Citric Acid
- Buffer and chelator at 0.1–2%; adjusts pH, may irritate sensitive skin at low pH
- BHT
- Lipophilic antioxidant at 0.01-0.05%; ineffective with acidic systems, label-sensitive, check regulatory limits as preservative alternative.
- Hydroxypropylcellulose
- Hydroxypropylcellulose, water-soluble polymer for gels and powder dispersion; low irritancy, good biocompatibility; may feel tacky at high levels.
- Sodium Lactate
- Sodium lactate for moisturizing and exfoliation; pH buffering agent
- Sodium PCA

- Glycine

- Sodium Benzoate
- Preservative booster, effective below pH 4.5; combinable with sorbates
- Lactic Acid
- AHA pH adjuster at 0.5-5%; exfoliation/humectancy, mild at low conc., irritating at high, avoid conflict with alkaline preservatives.
