Ethanol for solubility/drying at 5-15%; high conc. is drying/irritating, avoid lip/eye, low residue, balance with humectants.

Dimethicone

Silicone occlusive at 1–5%; provides smooth feel, non-penetrating, suitable for sensitive skin

Mica

Mineral colorant for pearlescence; heavy metal screening required

Caprylyl Glycol

Polyol conditioner and preservative booster at 0.5–3%; emollient feel, often paired with 1,2-hexanediol

Sodium chloride

Salt for gel viscosity control; used as precipitant in soaps

Disteardimonium Hectorite

Inorganic ionic clay thickener at 0.25-1%; water/oil/solvent systems, rheology control, avoid strong acids, may affect active release.

Chlorphenesin

Phenolic antimicrobial; strict EU limits apply, potential allergen, careful dosing required for leave-on products.

Propylene carbonate

Inert solvent and viscosity modifier; often used as penetration enhancer, mild at low levels

Boron nitride

Flake-shaped inorganic filler for slip and bulk in powders; control particle size to minimize inhalation risk

Triethoxycaprylylsilane

Silane coupling agent at 0.1-0.5%; enhances inorganic filler adhesion, trace use, low toxicity, avoid direct contact with aqueous systems.

Ricinus Communis Seed Oil

Castor oil for heavy moisturization and film formation; high viscosity, high levels may be comedogenic, blend with other oils.

Zea mays oil

Corn oil; light emollient and stabilizer. Low comedogenic rating (1). Use at 2-5% as carrier.

Diamond Powder

Diamond powder as abrasive; high hardness, check particle uniformity

Titanium Dioxide

Physical UV filter and colorant up to 25%; nano form requires attention

Iron oxides red; physical pigment. Coloring and photo-protective, stable and non-irritating.

Iron oxide red; stable inorganic pigment, non-toxic; ensure dispersion to prevent sedimentation.
