- Water-soluble UVB absorber for sunscreen; concentration limited by regulations, may irritate sensitive skin
- Octisalate
- Octyloleate, ester solvent and emollient; used in sunscreens or diluting oils, light texture
- Avobenzone
- Organic UV filter for UVB and part of UVA-I; poor photostability, used in synergy with other filters.
- C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate
- C12-15 alkyl benzoate; emollient, emulsifier, and antistatic; aids stability and smoothness, moderate low comedogenicity.
- Aqua
- Solvent, main base; microbial control is critical
- Butylene Glycol
- Polyol humectant and solvent at 1–5%; aids solubilization, light feel
- Polymethylsilsesquioxane
- Silicone polymer for emolliency, matte effect, and suspension; used in foundations or powder suspensions, typical usage 1-5%, smooth skin feel.
- Polymethyl Methacrylate
- PMMA for thickening, suspension, and film; micro-size powder carrier, very low irritation
- Isononyl Isononanoate
- Light, low-viscosity ester emollient; excellent spreadability, good for gels and light lotions
- Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer
- MMA crosspolymer for durable water-soluble film; high doses may create occlusion
- Dicaprylyl Carbonate
- Light emollient solvent at 5–15%; mineral oil-free, refreshing feel, low sensitization.

- Workhorse humectant at 3–10%; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives
- Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer
- Rheology-modifying silicone polymer for suspension and feel; requires silicone-compatible system
- Pentylene Glycol
- Polyol humectant at 1-3%; low irritancy, suitable for sensitive skin

- Emulsifier with hydrophilic properties; castor derivative, low sensitization risk.
- Phenoxyethanol
