Folding carton or rigid box: how do MOQ and freight compare?

Folding cartons for the everyday line, rigid boxes for gift sets.

1Folding carton: board weight and style

300g board for 30–50ml, 350g above 100ml; tuck-end for fast hand packing, crash-lock for high-volume single SKUs. EU exports need space on the carton for the RP address, batch code, PAO and ingredient list.

2Rigid box: the insert sets the impression

1.5–2.0mm greyboard wrapped in paper; EVA inserts are cheap but plasticky, moulded pulp costs more but keeps the box mono-material. Drawer boxes need 0.5–1mm clearance, adjusted for humid seasons.

3Overwrap and tamper evidence

A BOPP overwrap with tear tape gives tamper evidence and moisture protection; POF shrink film for bundles, PVC is no longer accepted in most export markets.

Follow-up questions

Q:Can the carton be skipped?
A:Yes for many e-commerce lines; but if the mandatory EU text does not fit the label, the carton or a leaflet has to carry it.
Q:Do cartons need eco credentials?
A:EU, Japanese and Korean buyers often ask for FSC board and soy inks; skipping lamination for aqueous varnish keeps the carton mono-material.
