- Mild nonionic emulsifier for O/W or W/O; contains PEG, verify preservative system.
- Anthemis Nobilis Flower Water
- Chamomile water with soothing and anti-inflammatory effects; contains trace oils, may sensitize ragweed-allergic individuals.
- Glycerin
- Workhorse humectant at 3–10%; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives
- Butylene Glycol
- Polyol humectant and solvent at 1–5%; aids solubilization, light feel
- Pentylene Glycol
- Polyol humectant at 1-3%; low irritancy, suitable for sensitive skin
- Sorbitol
- Polyol humectant with strong hygroscopy; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives; also a solvent or adjuster.
- Cetrimonium Bromide
- Cationic surfactant/preservative for hair products; antistatic, emulsifying, cleansing. Restricted in EU to 0.1% ocular. Incompatible with anionics.
