Hydroxyacetophenone

Hydroxyacetophenone as antioxidant; often boosts Vitamin C, works in acidic pH.

Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate

Mild non-ionic emulsifier for O/W systems; cetyl ester structure may irritate sensitive skin, use at 0.5-3%.

Caprylyl Glycol

Polyol conditioner and preservative booster at 0.5–3%; emollient feel, often paired with 1,2-hexanediol

Arginine

Arginine for moisturizing/conditioning; amino acid, high biocompatibility, often used in blends.

Carbomer

Gelling thickener requiring neutralization; watch out for ion compatibility

1,2-Hexanediol

Polyol solvent and preservative booster at 1–5%; light feel, can replace some traditional preservatives

Ethylhexylglycerin

Mild conditioner and preservative booster at 0.5–1%; reduces preservative load, smooth feel

Cellulose Gum

Cellulose gum, water-soluble thickener/stabilizer; may destabilize with cationics, hydrate first.

Xylitylglucoside

Polyol humectant with high water absorption and fresh feel; often co-used with propylene glycol for enhanced hydration.

Anhydroxylitol

Anhydrous xylitol, potent humectant; high hygroscopicity may cause stickiness at high levels.

Xylitol

Polyol humectant, sweet taste; water-soluble, high hygroscopy, excess draws moisture.

Sodium Hyaluronate

Potent humectant at 0.1–2%; different MW for penetration depth, high levels may draw moisture

Glucose

Low-MW humectant and buffer; high hygroscopicity requires careful preservation and humidity control.

Panthenol

Panthenol (vitamin B5) at 1–5%; moisturizing and reparative, supports barrier recovery

Hyaluronic Acid

High-water-binding humectant at 0.1-1%; high-MW for surface film, low-MW for dermal potential, check cationic compatibility.

Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate

Dipotassium glycyrrhizinate for moisturizing/soothing; inhibits 5-LOX, water-soluble, for sensitive skin.

Methyl Diisopropyl Propionamide

Fragrance ingredient providing herbal or fruity notes; used in low doses; potential allergen, compliance labeling required.

Menthyl Lactate

Menthyl lactate, cooling and fragrance agent, provides mild menthol sensation for refreshing

Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract

Plant extract containing rosmarinic acid etc., with antioxidant and antimicrobial properties; may contain allergenic fragrances, patch test for sensitive skin, typical concentration <1%.

Hydrogenated Lecithin

Emulsifier from lecithin; stable, used in powder emulsions

Niacinamide

Niacinamide at 2–5%; improves texture, controls oil, brightens; high levels may cause sensitivity

Pantolactone

Pantolactone, humectant; hydrolyzes to release panthenol, improves skin hydration, low level use, high safety

Sodium Guaiazulene Sulfonate

Blue anionic surfactant for cleansing and conditioning; water-soluble, rich foam, premium cost.

Benzyl Glycol

Solvent and viscosity regulator; aids solubility of actives, slight preservative boost

Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans

Hydrolyzed GAGs for hydration/conditioning; low MW, good penetration, low irritancy.

Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer

Crosslinked high-MW HA; forms surface hydrogel for long-lasting hydration, minimal penetration, physical film-forming.

Low-MW humectant with superior penetration vs high-MW; 0.1-0.5% typical, hygroscopic, store dry to prevent clumping.
