- Solvent, formulation base; requires preservation, pure water is microbially prone.
- Glycerin
- Workhorse humectant at 3–10%; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives
- Salicylic Acid
- Lipophilic BHA at 0.5-2%; exfoliant/sebum control, irritation/sensitization at high conc., photosensitivity (SPF needed), avoid sensitive/pregnant.
- Isononyl Isononanoate
- Light, low-viscosity ester emollient; excellent spreadability, good for gels and light lotions
- Butylene Glycol
- Polyol humectant and solvent at 1–5%; aids solubilization, light feel
- Kaolin
- Kaolin absorbent and bulk for powders/masks; check for heavy metals and comply with EU colorant limits IV/119
- Zinc Sulfate
- Antimicrobial and astringent, restricted in oral care; <1% topical, metallic taste, avoid mixing with amino acids
- Bifida Ferment Lysate
- Bifida lysate for skin conditioning; low usage, suits sensitive skin
- Sodium Hydroxide
- Strong base neutralizer for pH adjustment; handle with extreme care
- Sodium Polyacrylate
- Superabsorbent resin, <1%; gels with electrolytes, ionic strength control required.
- Sodium Hyaluronate
- Potent humectant at 0.1–2%; different MW for penetration depth, high levels may draw moisture
- Sodium Benzoate
- Preservative booster, effective below pH 4.5; combinable with sorbates

- Broad-spectrum preservative at ≤1%; may irritate sensitive eye areas, often paired with ethylhexylglycerin

- Stable Vitamin C derivative, antioxidant; more stable than pure ascorbic acid, releases activity slowly in neutral/basic conditions.

- Polyol conditioner and preservative booster at 0.5–3%; emollient feel, often paired with 1,2-hexanediol

- Hydrolyzed algin, water-soluble film former; boosts moisture retention, low viscosity contribution
