Ingredients explained
- Aqua
- Solvent, main base; microbial control is critical
- Sodium Cocoamphoacetate
- Mild amphoteric surfactant at 0.5–5%; low irritation, suitable for sensitive skin, often paired with anionics.
- Hamamelis Virginiana Leaf Water
- Astringent/soothing water with tannins; aqueous, high preservation needs; tannins may irritate
- Decyl Glucoside
- Mild alkyl glucoside, biodegradable; foam stabilizer, thickens with fatty alcohols, low allergenicity.
- Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6
- Water-soluble thickener; requires neutralizer, performs best at pH 5–7
- Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate
- Mild amino-acid surfactant; low irritation; instability in hard water.
- Glycerin
- Workhorse humectant at 3–10%; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives
- Zinc Pca
- Zinc salt for sebum control and antimicrobial; often paired with PCA sodium, high levels may cause sensitization
- Sericin
- Animal-derived silk protein, used for anti-static and hair/skin conditioning; provides smoothness and repair.
- Citric Acid
- Buffer and chelator at 0.1–2%; adjusts pH, may irritate sensitive skin at low pH
- Potassium Sorbate
- Preservative effective below pH 6; combinable with sodium benzoate
- Sodium Benzoate
- Preservative booster, effective below pH 4.5; combinable with sorbates
- Phenoxyethanol
- Broad-spectrum preservative at ≤1%; may irritate sensitive eye areas, often paired with ethylhexylglycerin
- Ethylhexylglycerin
- Mild conditioner and preservative booster at 0.5–1%; reduces preservative load, smooth feel
- Disodium EDTA
- Chelating agent at 0.05–0.5%; sequesters metal ions for stability, boosts preservative efficacy
