The client wants to replicate a bestselling amino acid cleanser, but our previous prototype lacked dense foam and felt tight after washing. We are also concerned about crystallization at high summer temperatures when dispensing. Which surfactant system and thickening adjustments should we make to resolve these issues?

Direct replication is impossible; performance benchmarking is required. To improve foam and reduce tightness, introduce nonionic or amphoteric surfactants as co-surfactants and adjust total active concentrations. Summer crystallization is atypical, as crystal formation is usually temperature-induced by cold. Investigate raw material purity first. For viscosity stability, prefer polymer co-thickening systems over salt-based ones to ensure batch consistency. Specific ratios require re-formulation and testing.

1Surfactant System

Single amino acid surfactants foam poorly. Recommend blending with amphoteric (e.g., betaine) or nonionic surfactants to enhance foam density, while lowering total active concentration to relieve tightness. Do not increase concentration to solve foam issues.

2Crystallization Troubleshooting

High summer heat causes turbidity, not crystallization. Crystallization is usually low-temperature induced. Check raw material purity and packaging integrity. Adjust polyol ratios to maintain solubility if needed.

3Thickening Optimization

Avoid relying on NaCl thickening due to curve peaks and batch fluctuations. Use polymer or co-thickening systems for better batch consistency and summer storage stability.
