Ingredients explained
- Aqua
- Solvent, main base; microbial control is critical
- Ethyl Ascorbic Acid
- Ethyl ascorbic acid, lipophilic Vit C derivative, antioxidant/whitening; more stable than L-AA, for oil phases
- Niacinamide
- Niacinamide at 2–5%; improves texture, controls oil, brightens; high levels may cause sensitivity
- Glycerine
- Workhorse humectant at 3-10%; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives, low irritancy.
- Arachidyl Alcohol
- Waxy emulsion stabilizer and thickener, often paired with cetearyl alcohol; heavy feel, good for creams
- Behenyl Alcohol
- Fat alcohol emulsifier/thickener at 1-3%; low comedogenic risk, check solubility in strong acid/base systems, add antioxidants.
- Arachidyl Glucoside
- Mild non-ionic emulsifier and emollient, PEG-free; co-soluble with stearoyl lactylates
- Ethoxydiglycol
- Ethoxydiglycol; high-perf solv/humectant; low irrit, EU limit 20%, watch total PEG load
- Bidens Pilosa Extract
- Bidentextract, humectant and conditioner; mild plant extract, verify stability.
- Elaeis Guineensis Oil
- Palm oil, emollient occlusive; saturated fats, moderate comedogenic risk.
- Gossypium Herbaceum Seed Oil
- Plant seed oil for skin conditioning; rich in fatty acids, prone to oxidation, requires antioxidants.
- Linum Usitatissimum Seed Oil
- Flaxseed oil; high oleic, emollient; prone to oxidation.
- Propanediol
- Polyol solvent at 1–5%; light feel, aids solubilization, propylene glycol alternative
- Salicylic Acid
- Lipophilic BHA at 0.5-2%; exfoliant/sebum control, irritation/sensitization at high conc., photosensitivity (SPF needed), avoid sensitive/pregnant.
- Gluconolactone
- Multifunctional agent for chelation and permeation; acidic, may irritate at high levels, buffer recommended.
- Sodium Benzoate
- Preservative booster, effective below pH 4.5; combinable with sorbates
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
- Light occlusive and solvent at 1–10%; non-greasy feel, suitable for oily and combination skin
- Sodium Ascorbate
- Sodium ascorbate; water-soluble vitamin C form, stable antioxidant. Mild at low conc., may irritate at high conc.
- Tocopherol
- Natural antioxidant (vitamin E) at 0.1–1%; prone to oxidation, store protected from light
- Retinol
- Highly active and unstable, needs robust antioxidant encapsulation; 0.1-1.0%, pregnancy contraindicated
- Tocopheryl Acetate
- Vitamin E derivative antioxidant at 0.1–1%; more stable than tocopherol, store protected from light
