- Water
- Primary solvent and base; requires preservative system to prevent microbial growth
- Sorbitol
- Polyol humectant with strong hygroscopy; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives; also a solvent or adjuster.
- Hydrated Silica
- Inorganic abrasive and oil absorbent; prone to settling, needs dispersant, high levels increase exfoliation
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
- Strong anionic surfactant, high foam; high irritation risk, avoid in sensitive formulas.
- Flavor
- Food-grade flavoring; verify cosmetic compliance and allergen content if used in skincare.
- Sodium Monofluorophosphate
- Antiplaque/caries agent in oral care; fluoride source restricted to oral products.
- Cellulose Gum
- Cellulose gum, water-soluble thickener/stabilizer; may destabilize with cationics, hydrate first.
