UV stabilizer (UV-326/328) preventing photo-degradation of formulas; has EU concentration limit, used in sunscreens.

Ethylhexyl Triazone

UVB absorber with good photostability; formulated with other filters, typical concentration 3-5%, check compatibility with other ingredients.

Glycerin

Workhorse humectant at 3–10%; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives

Titanium Dioxide

Physical UV filter and colorant up to 25%; nano form requires attention

UV-B absorber, photostable; high purity and low bioaccumulation, check for impurities.

Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate

Novel UVB absorber at 0.2-1.5%; narrow band, requires combination, high photostability, verify regional limits, low irritation.

Ethylhexyl Salicylate

Ethylhexyl salicylate, UVB absorber; volatile, requires combination with UVA filters for broad spectrum.

Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6

Water-soluble thickener; requires neutralizer, performs best at pH 5–7

C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate

C12-15 alkyl benzoate; emollient, emulsifier, and antistatic; aids stability and smoothness, moderate low comedogenicity.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride

Light occlusive and solvent at 1–10%; non-greasy feel, suitable for oily and combination skin

Ectoin

Cosmectin and skin protector, enhances skin tolerance; water-soluble, 0.1–5% common, compatible with most systems

Emollient from plants or synthetic; light texture

Cocoglycerides

Coco-glycerides act as emulsifiers and skin conditioning agents; gentle, often used in soap-free formulations.

Vitis Vinifera Seed Extract

Grape seed extract with OPCs; potent antioxidant; used for skin protection and UV support; needs stabilizers.

Silica

Silica powder at 1–10%; absorbs oil, thickens, provides matte finish, for oil-control products

Alcohol

Ethanol for solubility/drying at 5-15%; high conc. is drying/irritating, avoid lip/eye, low residue, balance with humectants.

Cetyl Phosphate

Anionic emulsifier and thickener; often blended, high levels may sting sensitive skin

T-Butyl Alcohol

Fast-evaporating solvent; sharp odor and potential irritation at high levels, limit usage

Lecithin

Phospholipid emulsifier at 1-5%; biocompatible, moisturizing/antioxidant, prone to oxidation (add TBHQ), mild for sensitive skin.

Tocopheryl Acetate

Vitamin E derivative antioxidant at 0.1–1%; more stable than tocopherol, store protected from light

Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate

Vitamin C ester antioxidant; more stable than ascorbic acid but still light-sensitive.

Tocopherol

Natural antioxidant (vitamin E) at 0.1–1%; prone to oxidation, store protected from light

Diisopropyl Adipate

Diisopropyl adipate for emollience and plasticizing; lipophilic, potential comedogenic

Ubiquinone

Coenzyme Q10 analog used as an antioxidant; prone to discoloration, needs protection from light and air.
