Isododecane

Synthetic hydrocarbon solvent providing dry, silky skin feel; high volatility, non-comedogenic, common in sunscreens and foundations, usage 5-30%.

Silica

Silica powder at 1–10%; absorbs oil, thickens, provides matte finish, for oil-control products

Dimethicone Crosspolymer

Crosslinked silicone polymer providing silkiness and viscosity control; for hair and skin; inert but hard to biodegrade.

Glycerin

Workhorse humectant at 3–10%; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives

C30-45 Alkyl Dimethicone

High-volatility silicone for slip and gloss at 1–5%; non-comedogenic, good for oily skin, pair with volatile silicones

Ethylhexyl Palmitate

Synthetic ester emollient with light skin feel; small molecule, slightly comedogenic, use cautiously for acne-prone skin, often blended with other oils.

Quaternium-90 bentonite

Modified clay for high-viscosity gels and powder suspensions; excessive use causes heavy texture

Sorbitan sesquioleate

Non-ionic emulsifier for O/W or W/O systems; moderate emulsification power, often used with co-emulsifiers

Sodium chloride

Salt for gel viscosity control; used as precipitant in soaps

Methicone

High-efficiency lipid-soluble antioxidant preventing oil rancidity; very low usage, typically 0.05-0.1%, ensure even distribution, avoid metal-catalyzed oxidation.

Isopropyl Myristate

Light synthetic ester, fast-drying and non-greasy; high comedogenic risk, limit in acne-prone skin

Isostearic Acid

Fatty acid derivative as emulsifier auxiliary and emollient; insoluble, requires homogenization, may feel slightly greasy

Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate

Mild emulsifier for O/W systems; 1-3%, avoid cationic surfactants

Pentaerythrityl tetraisostearate

Mild emulsifier and emollient with cleansing function; suitable for baby and sensitive skin, low irritancy.

Trihydroxystearin

Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate
