- Methylpropanediol
- Diol solvent and extraction carrier; enhances solubility of actives, low irritation profile.
- Butylene Glycol
- Polyol humectant and solvent at 1–5%; aids solubilization, light feel
- Caprylyl Methicone
- Volatile silicone, fresh feel, does not absorb oil, used in foundations and cushions.
- Glycolic Acid
- Glycolic acid for exfoliation; requires buffering at concentrations >10%, avoid combination with other acids.
- Mandelic Acid
- Alpha-hydroxy acid for exfoliation and antibacterial effects; mild penetration, less photosensitivity than other AHAs
- Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6
- Water-soluble thickener; requires neutralizer, performs best at pH 5–7
- Xylitylglucoside
- Polyol humectant with high water absorption and fresh feel; often co-used with propylene glycol for enhanced hydration.
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
- Light occlusive and solvent at 1–10%; non-greasy feel, suitable for oily and combination skin
- Azelaic Acid
- Acne and pigment agent; 15-20% can be irritating, needs controlled release or lower doses.
- Hexylresorcinol
- Tyrosinase inhibitor for whitening; typical range 0.1-1.5%, potential irritation at high levels, control pH.
- Salicylic Acid

- Potent humectant at 0.1–2%; different MW for penetration depth, high levels may draw moisture
- Bisabolol
- Soothing and anti-inflammatory agent, 0.01–0.1%; low irritation, good for sensitive skin.
- Ethyl Linoleate
- Fatty acid ester emollient for dryness; prone to oxidation, requires light protection.
- Anhydroxylitol
- Anhydrous xylitol, potent humectant; high hygroscopicity may cause stickiness at high levels.
- Xylitol
- Polyol humectant, sweet taste; water-soluble, high hygroscopy, excess draws moisture.
- Glucose
- Low-MW humectant and buffer; high hygroscopicity requires careful preservation and humidity control.
- Ethylhexylglycerin
