- Gentle sodium fatty acid surfactant; mild cleansing with fine lather; common in cleansers and body washes
- Water
- Primary solvent and base; requires preservative system to prevent microbial growth
- Glycerin
- Workhorse humectant at 3–10%; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives
- Sodium Chloride
- Salt for gel viscosity control; used as precipitant in soaps
- Citrus Aurantifolia Oil
- Bitter orange essential oil; fragrance and conditioning. Phototoxic; use in AM formulas requires sun protection. EU restricted.
- Cananga Odorata Flower Oil
- Ylang-ylang essential oil, natural fragrance; contains multiple allergens, restrict usage per EU regulations, avoid for sensitive skin
- Citrus Aurantium Bergamia Fruit Oil
- Bergamot essential oil, natural fragrance and photosensitizer; limit daytime use or use FCF grade
- Disodium EDTA
- Chelating agent at 0.05–0.5%; sequesters metal ions for stability, boosts preservative efficacy
