Caprylyl Methicone

Volatile silicone, fresh feel, does not absorb oil, used in foundations and cushions.

Shea Butter

Natural butter providing emollient and occlusive moisturizing; used as emollient and emulsifier.

Cetearyl Glucoside

Gentle non-ionic sugar-based emulsifier for low-irritation formulas; often co-blended

Tocopherol

Natural antioxidant (vitamin E) at 0.1–1%; prone to oxidation, store protected from light

Dicaprylyl Carbonate

Light emollient solvent at 5–15%; mineral oil-free, refreshing feel, low sensitization.

Ceramide 3 to restore skin barrier and moisturize; used at 0.01–1%, often blended

Lecithin

Non-ionic gum for gels; neutral pH, requires dissolution via heating or fine milling

Polyol humectant with light, non-sticky feel; less tacky than glycerin

Niacinamide

Niacinamide at 2–5%; improves texture, controls oil, brightens; high levels may cause sensitivity

Carnosine

Dipeptide skin conditioner with antioxidant and buffering properties; used in synergy with other actives.

Polysaccharide for soothing and hydration; high MW acts on the surface, poor penetration into deep dermis.

Sodium Hyaluronate

Potent humectant at 0.1–2%; different MW for penetration depth, high levels may draw moisture

Bisabolol

Soothing and anti-inflammatory agent, 0.01–0.1%; low irritation, good for sensitive skin.

Hydroxyacetophenone

Hydroxyacetophenone as antioxidant; often boosts Vitamin C, works in acidic pH.
