- Workhorse humectant at 3–10%; tacky at high levels, pair with occlusives
- Water
- Primary solvent and base; requires preservative system to prevent microbial growth
- Laureth-6 Carboxylic Acid
- Mild amphoteric/anionic surfactant for cleansing. Low irritation, tear-free. May cause minor scalp sensitivity.
- Lauric Acid
- Lauric acid for cleansing and emulsification; high comedogenic rating, recommend limiting to 1-2% or combining with other acids.
- Lauryl Hydroxysultaine
- Mild amphoteric surfactant; easy to rinse, low sensitization risk. Often used in shampoos and sensitive skin cleansers
- Potassium Hydroxide
- Strong alkali pH adjuster, trace usage (<0.1%); corrosive, must be neutralized.
- Decyl Glucoside
- Mild alkyl glucoside, biodegradable; foam stabilizer, thickens with fatty alcohols, low allergenicity.
- Myristic Acid
- Saturated fatty acid, saponification feedstock; insoluble alone, pairs with stearic acid.
- Fucus Vesiculosus Extract
- Brown alga extract providing moisture, soothing, and smoothing; gentle with no known sensitization or comedogenic risk.
- Polianthes Tuberosa Polysaccharide
- Tuberose polysaccharide, high retention; water-soluble, check gelation, poor with cationics.
- Hydroxyethylcellulose
- Water-soluble cellulose ether for thickening and suspension stabilization; sensitive to ions, electrolytes reduce viscosity, use at pH 7-8.
- PEG-65M
- High-molecular-weight PEG thickener/emulsifier. Non-ionic, low irritation. Watch PEG penetration on compromised skin.
- Sodium Laureth Sulfate
- Common anionic surfactant, strong foam but drying; check cationic compatibility, high eye irritation
- Hexadecanoic Acid
- Palmitoleic acid; C16 long-chain fatty acid providing emolliency and structure; low irritancy and comedogenicity.

- Chelating agent at 0.05–0.5%; sequesters metal ions for stability, boosts preservative efficacy
